Look at item #8 on the Online Pre-IPT—Oral English Test. Notice the entry to the left of the number is the word “ball”. An entry in this column means that in the course of administering this item, the Story Piece will be moved to the place where it is shown in the picture. For example, for item #8, you hand the child the ball and ask him or her to place it under the picnic table. Notice that directions to you, the examiner, are italicized and printed in parentheses. The expected answer is shown in the “Child responds” column. In item #8, this is also printed in italics and enclosed in parentheses because it is an action rather than a verbal response. If the child completes the action correctly, click the “Correct” button and move to the next item. If the child completes the item incorrectly, click the “Incorrect” button and move to the next item. However, notice the direction in the “Examiner says” column after the item. If the child placed the ball incorrectly, you must place this Story Piece in the correct place on the board before administering the next item.
